To be eligible you must be a student and must be giving an oral presentation or be the presenting author for a poster. Some of the prizes also require membership of a relevant society.
Each of the prizes will be judged by a panel that will attend student presentations nominated at the time of abstract submission. If you wish to be considered for a student prize and you fulfil the eligibility criteria, please select the prize you wish to be considered for when submitting your abstract. You can be considered for multiple prizes if you are eligible.
Wanda Henry Prize
The Wanda Henry Prize is awarded annually at ACOFT for the best student presentation either orally or as a poster. It is awarded in memory of Wanda Henry, who had a promising scientific career cut tragically short. The Wanda Henry prize is only available for ACOFT presentations, please select ‘yes’ at the ACOFT submission tick box when submitting your abstract. ACOFT abstracts must be 3 pages.
The prize/s includes:
- Personal cheque for $500
- Certificate in the recipient’s name
- A copy of the Wanda Henry booklet
Please note, postdeadline papers are not eligible and in this context, student means a full-time student at a tertiary education institution in Australia or overseas.
OSA and SPIE Student Prizes
Sponsored by the Optical Society of America and the SPIE, these prizes are awarded to the two best student presentations, oral or poster. The value of each prize is USD1250 and they take the form of reimbursement for costs associated with attending an OSA or SPIE conference. To be eligible the student must be a member of the Australian Optical Society, and in the case of an oral presentation, must be the speaker, or for a poster, must actually be in attendance at the poster session.
